I recommend you read Ted Neward’s I’m Pro-Choice… Pro Programmer Choice, that is.
And I wish I could say, “Alright! I agree!” But I can’t. Because, I hate to say it, we can’t language or OS agnostic. But it’s hard be a generalist in a specialist kind of industry. If you advertise yourself as 8 years of Java and 5 years of .Net and have those 5 years overlap, people aren’t going to believe you. I’ve been scoffed at in job interviews for similar things — I know that it happens.
But the zealotry of Java vs C# vs Rails vs Python is a horrible thing and must stop. But the industry and our employers are driving it.
