If you advertise yourself as 8 years of Java and 5 years of .Net and have those 5 years overlap, people aren’t going to believe you. I’ve been scoffed at in job interviews for similar things — I know that it happens.

But the zealotry of Java vs C# vs Rails vs Python is a horrible thing and must stop. But the industry and our employers are driving it.
