Write Them On Your Doorframes

Deuteronomy 11:18-12 encourages the Israelites to fix God’s laws into their minds and even says to “write them on your doorframes.”

I’ve said before that our church building has some serious building needs and we are currently building a new sanctuary (Or “worship center” using the new parlance.). Two Sundays ago we were encouraged to find a verse that was meaningful to us and then prepare to write it on the unfinished doorframes, steps, stage, studs, etc. in our new building. And that’s what we did last Sunday — the service was shorter to allow us all time to write God’s Word on the walls of our church.

And now you can see the Flickr stream of the pictures our secretary took. It’s quite powerful to sit and read these, but it was even more powerful to walk around the church and see these verses in every nook and cranny.

Not all the verses have photos — mine got skipped, as well as my favorite entry. I wrote mine where the new kitchen counter will be. I picked one of my favorites — because it seems so simple, but it such a challenge:

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. — Micah 6:8

Gina’s verse was very good. She found a great passage from Isaiah:

The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness.

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure — Isaiah 33:5-6

My favorite entry was written by my pastor (Pastors always find the good verses . . . ). He wrote the following on the stage, almost on the spot where he will be preaching in a couple months:

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” — Romans 10:14-15
