Entrustment

The Adoption of Lucas John Beaumont is finally complete.  I think his mom would have put more “!!” in the title if she could have.  Welcome to the family, Lucas.  When you get a bit older then perhaps you can go fishing and geocaching with Uncle Mike and Cousin Leah.  How’s that sound?  Oh, you can bring your dad if you want.  Well, and maybe Aunt Gina and your mom, but they have to touch a worm.

Gina has more pictures. I’m sure there will be more added hourly.

To say that there was a lot of twist and turns in the road would be an understatement.  As well as to say that Lucas is loved is just as big of a one. He is loved deeply by both his birth and adopted families.  Which is what made the road so full of twists and turns.

We had an Entrustment Ceremony for Lucas in the hospital chapel.  I had never heard of such things before, but I’m not sure I have been so close to an adopting couple before, either.  Mitch and Annette used an abbreviated version of this form.

What struck me the most in this highly-emotional ceremony was the charge given to Mitch and Annette.  As Pastor Dan (and the form) put it: “As the birth parents have put what’s best for Lucas in front of their own desires, so now you must put what’s best of Lucas in front of your own needs.”  How about that for a challenge?  I think all parents (adoptive, natural, and step) should be reminded of that revolutionary fact.
