DD: Our Human Condition

From Romans 3:21-24:

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

We are all sinners. But we were made from God’s own image, therefore we were made for good. But our sin destroys our lives, because we can’t handle our sinful nature. We need to do good — not only to save ourselves, but also for others around us.

However we can’t do any good by ourselves. Only through faith in God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ, can we bring any good in the world. Salvation through the Law alone won’t work, because we can’t follow the Law. The Law is good and we can’t follow the good without God.

That is why grace through Christ is so important — because it is what God has done for us. All we need to do is except it. And then we can bring good into the world — because God then works through us.

So how can we bring good into this world? I think the best way is to love others and tell them about what Christ can do for them. No, I don’t mean to lord your salvation over them, but instead show your love. Love all people like you do your church family and your immediate family. Jesus told us very plainly: “Bless those your curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” It is important to remember that God loves the unbeliever just as much as He does the believer — the difference is simpily one has decided to accept his gift. Are you ready to tell others about His gift?

On a last note, I leave you with part of a song that has been especially meaningful to me this week:

I will not boast in anything; no gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ; his death and resurrection Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart; his wounds have paid my ransom. –  Stuard Townsend, “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”
