GeotagThings
This SlashGeo story pointed me to GeotagThings, which is sorta like a geographic version of del.icio.us. “Huh?” I hear you say. You setup an account and place a bookmarklet in your bookmark bar. When you get a page that you want to assign an address for, you click on the bookmarklet, put in the address and some notes and, presto, you have geotagged the webpage. Why would you want to do this? Well, let me present an example.
Gina and I want to know where the closest public pools are. Omaha’s main pool page is a clickty-mess and their links to “directions” just brings you to Mapquest’s generic page — i.e, you still have to enter the address of the pool! So I went to the pages of the pools I thought were closest, hit the bookmarklet, added the address, the name of the pool, etc. and *poof* I have three Omaha swimming pools added to my personal map in GeotagThings! My person feed is here.”
You can also have a geo-referenced feed. You can set a location and then set a radius. Then whenever someone geotags a page in your radios, it will pop up in your feed! Very cool stuff!
It seems to only work on Firefox and related browsers, though — Opera wouldn’t even let me log in!
