More MacOS stuff

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Wow — a rare weekend post! Okay, Sunday night, actually . . .

Had more time to mess around with things. I got Aquamacs to behave (have the same colors for each mode, not open a new window for each file) and I even it got working with Tramp thanks to SSHKeychain. Now [...]

My First Dive Into OSX

Friday, April 21st, 2006

If you’ve been looking at my del.icio.us links lately (either on the left side or on del.icio.us itself) you may have noted a few Apple-orientated links appearing. Now, it is a official — I am an Apple user.

This is my first Apple product I have ever own — I didn’t have an [...]

Jar Work in a Shell Script

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Yep, my continuing silence means that I’ve been busy in the real world. But here’s something that I cooked up that maybe useful.

It seems that we screwed up our deployment descriptors in Weblogic and Weblogic 8.1 just complained and went on with the world. Well, a customer decided to try Weblogic 9.1 and [...]

Ubuntu can’t find my network

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Dear Lazyweb,

Whenever I reboot my Ubuntu machine, it stubbornly refuses startup my network on boot-up. Do enable it, I have to manually hit the “Activate” button on Network Preferences. I’m using a 3c59x-type NIC, so having the system find that module and load it would have to be trivial.

This may not seem like [...]

Joyous Easter

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Maybe Easter doesn’t mean much to you, but it means a lot to me. Many think that Christmas is the most important holiday of the year, but if you are a Christian, it isn’t — Easter is much more important. The fact that Jesus was born is important, but even more important is [...]

Why go geocaching?

Friday, April 14th, 2006

A great thread at the Geocaching.com forums:

I’ve been geocaching for over a year now, and wanted to share my impressions with those just starting, or thinking about giving it a try. I have been involved with many hobbies and sports for 40 years, and have always enjoyed pondering the advantages and disadvantages of each [...]

XML+AWK=Goodness

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Yep, this is a highly-geeky post. Mostly because alot of people out there may not know what AWK is, let alone want to touch it. I’m not an AWK expert, but at times I’ve thought that it would be nice to do some XML processing with AWK — AWK’s conditional nature seems to [...]

Geocaching update

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Yes, I did some geocaching on our trip and I thought I would make a separate post on that.

I got #50 on the way home. It was a much longer walk and more bushwaking than I wanted to do (especially at a rest stop!) but, hey, it was for #50. My favorite find [...]

A Little R&R

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

This blog has been quiet, and that usually means that I’ve been busy. This is no exception to that. We left on Wednesday for a little vacation in the Lone Star State — yep, Texas. We spent the first few days with my brother and his wife in Dallas and then headed [...]

The Magic of Make

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

I have a virtual machine setup and I need to compile some JScript.Net scripts on it. Most people would say I need Visual Studio, but alas, I don’t want to install it on a virtual machine, and I don’t think it would work well there anyway. Also, I’ve never used it, and generally [...]
