Vertigo//Omaha
(Okay, I’m a little late on this post. Been busy the past couple of days.)
I’ve been a U2 fan for many years but, for one reason or another, I’ve never been able to see them in concert. I had high expectations for their Omaha show — I expected it to be one of the best concerts I have ever seen. But they exceeded my expectations — it was for sure the best concert I have ever seen.
Gina (who had seen U2 on their last tour) described this show as “introspective” and that’s probably the best word to describe their concert. They didn’t preach to you, but the band presented you with issues in the world and you came out of the concert not only in awe of the band, but also thinking about the larger issues of the world. And the band gave you plenty of oportunities to respond — you could sign up for the One Campaign before, after, and yes, even during the concert via a text message.
It’s hard to imagine that these guys are ending their tour — they had so much energy and drive. It was amazing to seen Bono and Edge run after each other across the stage, while Edge never missed a beat and Bono wasn’t even a little out of breath. Yes, it wasn’t just the Bono-show — it was U2. The whole band was present there. Yes, Bono was on center-stage, but that is his role in the band. But not one member is greater than the other. The best example of this was the last song they played. While they had the audience sing the last line over and over again, Bono stopped signing, went to the center, took a bow, and then left.. Then Edge played a solo, took off his guiter, went to the center, took a bow, and then left. Then Adam did his turn, and so did Larry. Then the lights soon came on.
Special thanks to Jeremy for getting us tickets!
