Mapping my cache density

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

This little project was started by this post on the GPSBabel mailing list. I asked him how he rendered the map and he told me (off the list) that he used Mapserver’s shp2img utility. I didn’t have Mapserver installed, and don’t want to at this point. And, I assume, I had to [...]

Merry Christmas

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Yes, this holiday used to be Yule, and it still is for some, but most of the world celebrates it as Christmas.

December 25th is one of the most holiest days of the year (but for sure not the holiest). A lot of people celebrate it by buying things for each other, or for themselves. [...]

Geocaching Quickies

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Some quickies:

Yesterday, I got a copy of the Podcacher podcast and then I listened to another on the way home from work. It’s pretty good, though a bit syrupy.
Today, I finally ended my two-month long dry spell by grabbing River Bridge II over lunch. I [...]

It got away

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

We heard the helicopter going over our house all evening long. We had an idea what was going on, and we were right. Too bad it got away.

Blastwave pkg-get

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

I’m installing Solaris on a brand-spanking new virtual machine. I stumbled onto Blastwave’s pkg-get. If you are running a Solaris machine, you need it.

This is a good [...]

Angie wrote a post that puts things into perspective for her and for us.

Quote of the Day

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Seen on a mailing list this morning:

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, [...]

Vertigo//Omaha

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

(Okay, I’m a little late on this post. Been busy the past couple of days.)

I’ve been a U2 fan for many years but, for one reason or another, I’ve never been able to see them in concert. I had high expectations for their Omaha show — I expected it to be one of [...]

SQL storage in the browser

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

At ApacheCon, Francois Orini demoed Mozilla to use Derby as a storage. He filled out a form, crashed the browser, and when he restarted, the data was there!

Also read Ted Leung’s desciption and reaction. There’s neat stuff coming.
